11 Cozy Yet Chic Sweaters To Elevate Your Winter Wardrobe

Admittedly, I'm a southern girl at heart. Despite having lived in the northeast for 15+ years, it took me about 10 years to find a good winter coat (lifechanging, btw) and I'm pretty much just now learning the art of purchasing warm, comfortable, stylish sweaters that last. Apparently I'm not alone in my ongoing search for the perfect sweater(s), so I asked a few far-more-stylish-than-I friends to share their favorite sweater recommendations (and threw in a few of my own). The resulting list is a mixture of budget friendly picks, thoughtful splurges, and vintage finds. Enjoy!

I have a couple v-neck men's cashmere sweaters from my grandfather that I love. Bright red and light yellow. Old golf sweaters, but so so soft like a hug.

1. babaà

A friend recommended babaà’s jumper no51 in mist and I have to say, I’m eyeing it hard in the splurge category. Loose fitting, high neck, pure wool…pretty delightful. babaà is also built around the core value of sustainability, using only local and natural materials.

2. Quince

I ordered three sweaters from Quince last fall, not quite sure what I was going to get, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised! I’ve worn the Mongolian Cashmere Black Fisherman Crew Neck Sweater almost daily this winter. I also got the Mongolian Cashmere Relaxed V-Neck Sweater (and love it) and the Alpaca Quarter Zip Sweater. The Alpaca Quarter Zip is quite thin, but still warm and cozy.

3. Caron Callahan

I am loving this Fletcher Sweater in Canary Stripe Mohair (and word to the wise, it is on major sale). It also comes in a really fun coral color.

4. Etsy

One of my friends is the absolute queen of stylish vintage finds. She’s been sourcing all of her sweaters either at a local vintage store or via Etsy. She shared this curated sweater collection with me and it was too cute not to share!

I've been sourcing sweaters from my local thrift store and Etsy. I have found the most gorgeous angora, mohair, wool, and cashmere sweaters for pennies. I have too many. But I can't let them sit there for $5 each!

5. Target

I’ve been trying to wear natural fabrics, shop vintage, etc. wherever possible, but I picked up this crewneck sweater in gray at Target recently for a work trip and I am not sad about it. Super basic, but comfy, fits well, and I love it with some high waisted black jeans.

6. Rick Owens

Rick Owens’ Black Alpaca Knit Crater Sweater was recommended to me as the best drape and work-to-dinner sweater. Admittedly a splurge, but it looks like it can be found on sale in multiple places.

7. Sézane

I’m drooling over Sézane’s Emile Cardigan. It’s Alpaca wool and comes in some beautiful neutrals as well as really fun colors (check out Meadow Green and Cobalt Blue).

8. Jenni Kayne

My husband got me Jenni Kayne’s Cashmere Cocoon Cardigan in black for Christmas (it was on sale). It is super comfortable and I wear it pretty much all the time, so I certainly don’t feel bad about the purchase. That said, I have a sneaking suspicion that the Mongolian Cashmere Oversized Boyfriend Sweater from Quince would be just as good for a fraction of the price.

9. Theodore Scanlan

Another splurge, but this brushed mohair turtleneck looks so comfy and cozy I had to include (plus, it’s currently on sale).

10. Almina Concept

I just discovered this brand and really love the look and cut of some of their sweaters. I’m in the market for a good turtleneck, and really eyeing this oversized wool turtleneck.

11. Vintage!

I personally have a few fantastic vintage cashmere sweaters that a friend sourced for me via The RealReal. As I was gathering recommendations for this article, I loved the vintage suggestions that came in from friends I asked. From one friend: “I have a couple v-neck men’s cashmere sweaters from my grandfather that I love. Bright red and light yellow. Old golf sweaters, but so so soft like a hug.” From another: “I’ve been sourcing sweaters from my local thrift store and Etsy. I have found the most gorgeous angora, mohair, wool, and cashmere sweaters for pennies. I have too many. But I can’t let them sit there for $5 each!”
